This describes what is on the Guinness2 CD and gives usage tips.
Quick Start:
1. Insert CD-ROM into CD-ROM drive.
2. When mounted on desktop, double click to open.
3. Double click on Guinness.TWC to launch Encyclopedia.
or
1. Double click on the Countries folder to open.
2. Double click on the Countries of the World icon to start.
What's here?
1. The Guinness Encyclopedia text is indexed in TextWare for high speed search and
retrieval. This does not have a graphic user interface rather it is a text-based
search engine. This is a very powerful research tool with keyword, Boolean, phrase
and proximity searching available.
To use:
Double click on the Guinness.TWC icon.
Perform searches by pressing the space bar to open the search dialog, then entering
your search word(s), and pressing Enter/Return.
Upon a successful search a hit list is shown, choose an item from the hit list by
double clicking on it or highlighting and pressing Enter/Return.
2. Countries of the World. Data on 192 different countries including population,
religion, government and land area.
To use:
Open the Countries folder.
Double click on the Countries of the World icon.
Click on a country name on the globe,
or
scroll though the country list and click on a country name,
or
click on the Search Countries button and type the name of the country
to access the country you are interested in.
Help is available by clicking the Help button.
Note: The countries of the World data is also included in the Guinness.TWC database.
3. NASA photos. There are 49 NASA photos that my be used as clip art or simply for your viewing pleasure. The TIFF images are 24 bit 300 dpi resolution and the PICT and BMP images are 24 bit screen resolution. The document Photo Descriptions gives the photo names and descriptions of the photos. The images may be previewed by running the QuickTime movie Photo Previews.MOV.
4. NASA videos. Videos in QuickTime format ranging from Earth views from the Space Shuttle to computer generated animations of the landscape on Miranda. The document Video descriptions gives the names of the videos and their descriptions.
